How to Reinstall or Remove PUBG (2023)

As a general rule, games like PUBG lose more and more performance over time, and we recommend reinstalling the game from time to time. In this how-to, we will show you how to get PUBG completely deleted from your PC system so that you can perform a clean reinstall if desired.

Updates add more files, crashes create log files and dumps, telemetry data put a bunch of data on your hard drive, and sometimes the game is just so poorly programmed that it all has a negative effect over time. In addition, there are built-in game engines and a few other components that can get worse over time.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) is, unfortunately, no exception to this rule.

If you feel like you’re not landing hits anymore, something is stuttering, or your performance is dropping for no reason, then you should try a reinstall.

If you are frustrated and don’t want to play PUBG anymore, remove all game elements with this guide. Otherwise, anti-cheat protection and the telemetry data crawler from Bluehole or Tencent might send messages to South Korea in the background and negatively affect your other games. Also, deleting your account makes sense so that you don’t get annoying messages in the future.

Backup Your PUBG Configuration

If you plan to reinstall, back up your in-game configuration to the cloud. You can do this in the game settings in the lobby. Alternatively, you can save the UserSettings.ini in the path

C:\Users\<YourWindowsUsernameHere>\AppData\Local\TslGame\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor 

and copy it to the same place after the reinstall.

Backup Graphics Card Settings for PUBG

Uninstall the Game in Steam

Uninstalling the game is the easiest part. Go to the game settings via Steam and click uninstall.

Clean up the Remaining Game Files

Delete the remaining PUBG folders:

C:\Program files(x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/PUBG

and

C:\Users\<YourWindowsUsernameHere>\AppData\Local\TslGame

Clean up the rest of the anti-cheat tool files.

Delete the BEService_pubg.exe file from the C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\BattlEye folder.

Delete the Remaining Data of the Unreal Engine

Delete the Unreal Engine folder: C:\Users\Nutzer\AppData\Local\UnrealEngine

Delete Invalid Registry Entries

Disclaimer: By making changes to the registry, you can damage your system. Always make a backup of the entire registry before making any changes. If you use a cleaning program for this purpose, always make a backup first in case you need to restore your system.

If you want to take the risk, you can also remove the last traces in the Windows Registry. Search for “PUBG” and delete all entries you find. The same goes for “Unreal Engine” or “UnrealEngine.”

Delete the Contents of the TEMP Folder

Attention, please do not delete the folder itself, but only the contents as far as possible. You may not be able to delete some files because they are currently in use.

Delete the Download Temp Files from Steam

In Steam, go to Settings -> Download and click on “Clear download cache.”

There we are. PUBG is gone.

If you do NOT want to reinstall PUBG, then skip down to the “Permanently delete PUBG account” step to wipe away any memory of PUBG as well.

Reinstall PUBG

So let’s start the reinstallation.

Okay, this isn’t any harder than uninstalling via Steam. Go back to Steam, search for PUBG and click “install.” Please wait for the next step until the game completed installation. Steam will notify you with a message.

Restore PUBG configuration

If you have moved your configuration to the cloud before uninstalling, then PUBG will pull the information automatically, and you don’t have to do anything. If you manually saved the UserSettings.ini, then copy the file now back to the path: C:\Users\<YourWindowsUsernameHere>\AppData\Local\TslGame\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor

Restore Graphics Card Settings

Here you either import the previously exported profile again or reconfigure the setting in the NVIDIA Control Panel for PUBG, for example.

Customize PUBG Program Files

For better performance, you should adjust the settings of the EXE files of PUBG. To do this go to the path C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\PUBG\TslGame\Binaries\Win64

Call there the properties of the tslgame.exe.

Then click the Compatibility tab, un-check the box before Override high DPI scaling behavior. Apply.
